Second of four semesters of Concert Choir including preparation and performance of a broad spectrum of choral music from classical to popular, show tunes, and jazz. At least two performances are scheduled each semester, sometimes accompanied by band or orchestra. These courses are open to college students and adult members of the community.
Goals, Topics, and Objectives
The goal of this course is to challenge musicians to develop individual and ensemble performance skills in vocal music and to perform in concert on campus and/or in the community.
- Vocal Warmup
Demonstrate a vocal warmup routine, including stretching, breathing, vocalizing, and conducting exercises at an introduction to reinforcement level.
- Rehearsals
Perform their appropriate vocal part (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass), on representative choral literature, in sectional, full chorus, and mixed standing arrangement rehearsals at an introduction to reinforcement level.
- Sight-reading
Demonstrate introduction to reinforcement level in sight-reading skills.
- Musical voice (personal tone)
Demonstrate introduction to reinforcement level in the understanding of the dynamic contrast in development of one's musical "voice" or musical tone.
- Performances
Perform in a variety of live music events, including informal sing-alongs, on-campus programs, off-campus programs, and formal concerts, at an introduction to reinforcement level.
