Catalog Course Description

A preliminary course emphasizing story-boarding techniques as a device to set up a story, frame shots and create a cohesive sequence of events. Aesthetic consideration will be developed through the use of style frames and character development. This class meets for six (6) hours a week.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

To provide students with an understanding of preliminary animation techniques including script to screen, rendering, aspect ratios, camera angels and heights, character development and aesthetic style considerations.

Core Course Topics
  1. Story construction
    • Illustrate a sequential set of actions.
  2. Character development
    • Transform personality, expression and environmental considerations for developments of unique character.
    • Digitize character.
  3. Storyboard Development
    • Set up a sequence of events that tell a story.
    • Apply camera heights and angles to frame scenes for active story telling.
    • Interpret a script to construct a storyboard from script
  4. Style Frames

    Construct digital style frames which demonstrate visual aesthetic

  5. Character and sequential construction to tell a visual story
    • Construct an original concept for a sequential story as a capstone project.

Provide, in writing, a request to the department. Indicate the rationale for requesting credit and describing the type of college-level learning or course descriptions. Portfolio must contain 3-5 pieces of evidence that illustrates competency in all course learning objectives. Department faculty will evaluate submitted portfolios based on the evaluation rubric.
