Catalog Course Description
User Experience (UX) Design is the application of theory and understanding of human needs in the creation of interactive products. Students will implement the last three stages of Design Thinking: Ideate, Prototype and Test to create a successful prototype project as part of a user experience interactive product design process. Students will create a case study from the project for inclusion in a UX Portfolio.
Goals, Topics, and Objectives
Goal Statement
Building off ART-158 User Experience Design 1, this course will evaluate prior research and create a working prototype as part of the design thinking process as applied to interactive product design.
Core Course Topics
- Design Thinking – Ideate and Prototype. Understanding the iterative design process and the importance of early and often low fidelity prototyping as a basis for improved performance.
- Evaluate research and low-fidelity prototype feedback to revise and define the problem.
- Design Thinking – Ideate and Prototype. Discuss high-fidelity prototypes, prototype tools, Material Design, and visual design considerations.
- Use prototyping tools to create a high-fidelity prototype.
- Types of user testing and evaluating for heuristics and usability of the design.
- Test prototype and explain users’ responses in a report.
- Creating a user report and using the data to formulate a plan for improvement.
- Integrate report findings in revision process.
- Creating a UX case study including writing and storytelling as a method to build an engaging case study. Tools for creating a case study.
- Illustrate the user experience process and prototype to create a case study.
- Preparing for a career in UX Design–skills the industry seeks in UX designers, and tools to showcase UX skills including prepared case study.
- Plan and prepare a case study.
