Catalog Course Description

Designed to offer practical work experience within the Automotive Technology and Service field through participation in a supervised coordinated education program. This course integrates work experience with classroom and Lab instruction.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

Coordinated education helps students make the school-to-work transition, develop career and program-related learning objectives, and work on applicable skills for employment. Placements should provide students with the opportunity to apply and expand upon knowledge learned in the classroom, and develop the skills acquired in their coursework to align with the standards and expectations set by the worksite.

  1. Professional Dress and Demeanor (attitude, posture, courteousness).
  2. Workplace Communication.
  3. Interviewing Skills.
  4. Resume Building.
  5. Documentation of tasks assigned.
  6. Tracking of flat rate hours.
  7. Career Advancement.
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  1. Student Specific.
    1-3 program specific learning objectives will be developed by the instructor for each individual offering.
  2. Student -defined.
    Students will create 1-3 learning objectives per credit to be approved by instructor for each individual offering.
  3. Program Coordinator-defined.
    a. Build a resume that meets standards of program.
    b. Articulate the reasons for professional attire.
    c. Wear professional attire while on the worksite.
    d. Perform duties as assigned by supervisor at dealership.
    e. Display appropriate professional attitude and demeanor while on the worksite.
    f. Complete the ASSET job log for each task completed at the dealership.
    g. Track flat rate time paid for each task completed.
    h. Track each week's total flat rate time for all tasks completed.
    I. Display understanding of dealership operations, technician's warranty responsibilities, and correct/complete repair order documentation.

Assessment and Requirements

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Assessment will be determined by the instructor based on what is in the best interest of the student's academic growth, including future employability of the student. Assessment may include, but isn't limited to:
• Major final project
• Weekly journal
• Creation and attainment of all learning objectives
• Consistent and prompt attendance at worksite
• Employer evaluation.

General Course Requirements and Recommendations

To be determined by the instructor. A detailed course syllabi for each section of AUTO 292 offered will be presented to the School of BEPD and Curriculum Committee “For Information Only” by the mid-semester point of the term the course is offered.
