Emphasizes punctuation that is commonly applied to documents constructed or edited in the business environment. Covers business grammar, proofreading skills, and parts of speech in proper context.

  1. Parts of Speech

    a. Define the parts of speech.
    b.Use the parts of speech in proper context.

  2. Punctuation Rules

    a. Apply the rules for commas, semicolons, colons, hyphens, dashes, quotation marks, exclamation marks, and apostrophes in business documents.

  3. Sentence Errors

    a. Identify construction errors such as fragments, run-ons, and comma splices.
    b. Apply the decision-making process to correct errors in sentence context.

  4. Capitalization Rules

    a. Apply capitalization rules for proper nouns, organizational terms, titles, names of geographic places, titles of publications, and trade names.

  5. Number Usage

    a. Apply the rules for writing numbers in business documents.

  6. Subject and Verb Agreement

    a. Apply the rules for subject and verb agreement.

  7. Business Document Formats

    a. Compare and contrast letter styles and open and mixed punctuation formats.
    b. Discuss and apply business document formatting.
