Either: ENT-100 and one 200-level ENT course (ENT-212, ENT-216, ENT-219, ENT-235, ENT-252, ENT-255, ENT-256, ENT-259, ENT-260, ENT-265, or ENT-269) or BLDE-106 and one 200-hundred level BLDE course (BLDE-210, BLDE-215, BLDE-220, BLDE-260, BLDE-265, BLDE-270), or working experience with registered Michigan mechanical contractor, apprenticeship, or Instructor Permission.
Catalog Course Description

Designed to help advanced-level technicians prepare for the State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor License exam. Reviews rules, regulations, heating service, refrigeration service, and air conditioning service. Note: this license exam is not included in this course.

Goal Statement

To help the student prepare for the State of Michigan License exams and various specialities. Much of this class is self-study.

  2. State of Michigan Forbes Act and Stille-DeRosset Act
  3. State of Michigan Mechanical and International Fuel Gas Codes
  4. Domestic and comercial refrigeration
  5. Heating and Cooling Sheet Metal
  6. Heating gas piping systems
  7. Heating hydronic systems
  8. Refrigeration piping
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  1. Recite and answer the questions related to Refrigeration Systems-Heating Systems.*
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of both the Mechanical and International Fuel Gas Code Review/Laws.*
  3. Demonstrate ability to use Michigan.gov website related to the State of Michigan Mechanical test/registration.
  4. Define hydronic process piping.
  5. Demonstrate abilities related to appliance venting/related rules.
  6. Demonstrates duct design skills.*
  7. Perform gas pipe sizing calculations.
  8. Define limited heating and limited refrigeration requirements and related questions.
  9. Answer related questions to the State of Michigan Forbes Act.*
Detailed Learning Objectives (Optional)

The student will be given handouts for independent study along with on-line exercises to help prepare for the state test. A mid-term and final exam will be given to let the student know what areas of study/ refreshing are needed before the State of Michigan test. Lecture sessions involve an 8-hour day starting at 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and one-hour lunch. This class is designed to help the student prepare for the State of Michigan Mechanical Contractors Exam.
