Catalog Course Description

Further builds reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in Mandarin Chinese, focusing on communication in a cultural context. Develops students' knowledge of vocabulary, pronunciation and grammatical principles in order to comprehend and express everyday ideas in both spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. Presents Chinese culture.

Goal Statement

CHN-132 is designed to enable students to reach the Novice High level on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency scale, focusing on language learning through communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities.

  5. Understand simple dialogs or paragraphs about situations similar to those presented in each chapter or unit of the textbook

  7. Categorize major regions and language groups of the Chinese-speaking world
  8. Analyze differences between Chinese and American cultures
