Offers a supportive group setting for students to examine their own personal sources of stress, how these stress factors are affecting them and what they can do to develop more effective coping strategies.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Core Course Topics
  1. Defining Stress.
    • Identify the physical, mental, emotional and environmental components of stress.
    • Analyze how stress negatively impacts the body from a physical, emotional, environmental and a psychological perspective.
  2. The Symptoms of Stress.
    • Identify the physical symptoms
    • Identify the mental symptoms
    • Identify emotional symptoms.
    • Identify environmental symptoms.
  3. Managing Stress.
    • Engage in physical release exercises.
    • Engage in mental release exercises.
    • Engage in emotional release exercises.
    • Engage in environmental release exercises.
  4. Personalizing a Stress Management Program.
    • Create a detailed plan to manage one's stress that includes the physical, mental, emotional and environmental aspects of stress.

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Assessment of student learning may include, but not be limited to, writing assignments, completing inventories, special projects, oral reports, the personalized stress management program and demonstrating the use of stress release exercises.
