Catalog Course Description

Covers advanced projection techniques. Utilizes auxiliary views to manipulate geometry and define relationships between points, lines, surfaces, and solids. Also covers revolution, intersections, solids, and developments.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Core Course Topics
  1. Principles of orthographic projection
  2. Placement and use of work lines
  3. Application of orthographics to obtain necessary views
  4. Identify status of geometry from given projections
  5. Obtain needed views through use of projection
  6. Secondary Auxiliary Views
  7. Find relationships between given geometry
  8. Hihedral angles
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  • Comprehend the basic principles of orthographic projection.
  • Properly and accurately place and use work lines in the making of a mechanical drawing using orthographic projection.
  • Use orthographic projection to manipulate geometry to arrive at the necessary views on a mechanical drawing.
  • Apply the correct sequence of steps to obtain a necessary view.
  • Interpret a mechanical drawing that is made in orthographic projection.
  • Find the interception of surfaces piercing surfaces.
  • Apply procedures to determine the interception of a surface piercing a solid.
  • Find the solution of projection problems with the use of true length line, point view of a line, the edge view of a plane, and the true size and shape of a plane.
  • Derive a specified view by the use of auxiliary projection.
  • Demonstrate the ability to solve a projection problem given a set of criteria.
  • Find and measure spatial relationships between points, lines, and surfaces.
