Training for how to build exercise facilities, purchase exercise equipment, and prevent and treat injuries associated with exercise.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

To provide the knowledge and skills needed to operate an exercise facility following the guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine. Skills needed for to safely respond and treat exercise related injuries.

Core Course Topics
  1. Emergency Preparedness

    Design an emergency procedures plan for a facility.

  2. Legal Responsibilities

    Discuss how the American with Disabilities Act impacts a facility.
    Perform a facility/equipment safety check that is followed regularly.

  3. Equipment Selection

    Describe how to choose appropriate equipment for pools, fitness centers, locker rooms, gymnasiums, and child care centers.

  4. Professional Organizations

    Recall what trade organizations are available to help with the establishment of an exercise facility.

  5. Assessment of Injuries

    Perform an initial assessment and determine chief complaint.
    Perform a focused assessment.

  6. Emergency care for sports injuries

    Describe the recognition and treatment for musculoskeletal injuries, cardiac conditions, environmental emergencies, breathing emergencies, and metabolic emergencies.
