Catalog Course Description

Focuses on how to improve core strength and postural alignment. Studies Pilates exercises, breath control, basic skeletal-muscular anatomy, and function involved in the Pilates program of exercise.

Goal Statement

To improve body alignment and core strength safely and effectively.

Core Course Topics
  1. Skeletal Muscular Anatomy
    • Identify basic skeletal-muscular structures involved in Pilates.
  2. Basic Kinesiological Terms
    • Define and explain basic Kinesiological terms used in Pilates.
  3. Pilates Exercises, Breathing, and Technique
    • Execute Essential/Basic Pilates exercises with correct breathing and technique.
  4. Exercise Purposes
    • Explain the purpose of each Basic Pilates exercise.
  5. Injury Prevention and Exercise Modification
    • Evaluate and modify exercises to fit individual needs to match skill level and to move safely and efficiently.
  6. Diet
    • Show consumed foods, compare to dietary guidelines, and make recommendations for improvement accordingly.

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Assessment of academic achievement will be identified and implemented by the class instructor. Methods will include, but not be limited to, individual projects, vocabulary, class participation (discussion and critiques), and tests.
