Catalog Course Description

A rigorous capstone experience which requires critical thinking and highly developed design skills to be applied to real life situations. The experience also involves updating design portfolios, developing a professional resume, and participating in mock employment interviews. Final studio project focuses on the development of an interior design project for a real client.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

To synthesize interior design educational experience in the development of design solutions for a real life client.  Students will work in teams in the creation of the programming documents for the project.  The project will culminate with oral presentations of individual design solutions to the client.  In addition, students will prepare for successful entry into a career in the interior design field or continue in the pursuit of a bachelors degree at a four-year institution.  Portfolios will be evaluated and professional quality resumes developed.

Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  1. Demonstrate proficiency in the writing of a professional resume and cover letter.
  2. Critically evaluate, prepare and upgrade their portfolio containing student work in anticipation of job interviews and/or transfer to four-year institutions in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in interior design.*
  3. Exhibit professionalism (demeanor, etiquette and attire) when meeting and working with clients.
  4. Demonstrate an ability to participate in a collaborative teamwork approach in the collection and sharing of data, research, client interview and critically assess teamwork and sharing of information in the collection and compilation of research and data.*
  5. Synthesize all aspects of interior design education into a final design project allowing students to experience the eight step design process in solving an interior design problem for an actual client.*
  6. Conduct self-evaluations and ascertain valuable project feedback received following the presentation of design solutions to an actual client.*
