This Journalism learning experience is for students interested in writing for an online news publication. The experience will be under the direction of the faculty advisor for the Mirror News.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

Students will:

  • Create online news content
  • Practice professional journalism standards
  • Comply with Associated Press style and ethical guidelines
  • Develop academic responsibility and critical thinking skills in the field of journalism
  • Develop comprehension and practice of ethics in journalism
  • Develop the skills and talents needed to pursue a career in journalism or a journalism-related field

Assessment of academic achievement may include, but not be limited to, weekly activity review meetings and online published content critiques.

General Course Requirements and Recommendations

This learning opportunity will provide students interested in careers in Journalism to obtain hands-on experience with producing online content. The student will be required to attend weekly meetings with the faculty adviser for the Mirror News. This opportunity provides students journalism experience beyond that generally available in the classroom. The experiential learning goals are: to encourage academic responsibility and critical thinking in the field of journalism, to develop the student's comprehension and practice of ethics in journalism, and to develop the student's skills and talents in pursuing a career in journalism or a journalism-related field.
