Catalog Course Description

Provides various forms of field experience as required by licensing agencies. Participants are assigned to an industrial plant or field-type situation in order to observe and be exposed to the actual activities and tasks performed by power engineers. Course may be repeated in order increase field experience and/or qualify for a licensure exam.

  1. Topics determined by developing a plan of work with the instructor based on the type of placement which will include competencies in operating the equipment included in the practicum.
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)

Demonstrate proper operation of plant equipment and systems found in power, process and facilities operating plants which requires the learner to (in consultation with the course instructor, the lab instructor and/or field coordinator and / or  on-site proctor, preceptor or supervisor) interact safely and successfully with systems and plant equipment at the selected or assigned instructional site.*

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Practical assessment will be accomplished by the instructor, mentor, supervisor, preceptor, or facilitator.  Levels of achievement are based on the knowledge necessary to take a license exam as required by licensing agencies.  Practical demonstration of proficiency for tasks list items is required.  Evaluation will also take the form of facilitator assessment as well as team assessment if appropriate.

This course is identified as a departmental course for which a learner can receive college credit for prior college-level learning and/or skills acquired outside the traditional classroom. Terms of the HFCC Credit for Prior College-Level Learning Policy may be met by review of the appropriate documentation, skill, certifications, and/or knowledge acquired by the learner and submitted for evaluation by the appropriate departmental faculty.
