Catalog Course Description
Introduces the fundamental skills needed in entry-level nursing practice. Covers the nursing process and Orem’s Self-Care Model as the conceptual model for nursing practice. Laboratory practice precedes clinical experience with actual clients. Emphasizes the development of competence for the entry-level registered nurse in the clinical experience.

- Use the nursing pocess to systematically guide decision making regarding patient care.
- Use Orem's Self-Care Deficit theory in beginning nursing practice.
- Explain the basic principles of change, learning, and systems theories as it affects the care of their patients.
- Identifie the biopsycosociocultural, developmental, and environmental/ecological principles impacting the adult patient as a self care agent.
- Identify the ANA standards of professional nursing practice.
- Describe the role of the associate degree nurse within the nursing profession.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of the concept of caring in nursing.
