Catalog Course Description

Provides continued development of competency in the application of the nursing process to adults with common medical-surgical problems affecting the gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, reproductive, and neurosensory systems. Discusses disaster preparedness and bioterrorism. Emphasizes principles, concepts, and factors related to the client’s health state. Issues, trends, legal and ethical accountability, and promotion of quality care in nursing practice are integrated.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Core Course Topics
  1. Safe medication administration.
  2. Health restoration, disease prevention, and illness management for individuals with gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and neurosensory problems.
  3. Follow the ANA standards of care for increasingly complex medical-surgical patients.
  4. Internalizing community principles of the role of the nurse in biological disasters.

  1. Theory grade of 80% or better
  2. Satisfactory clinical performance
