Explores issues and trends in healthcare delivery, including certification requirements and systematic review for the national certification examination for ophthalmic technicians.

Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  1. Identify current trends in ophthalmic healthcare delivery and emerging job markets for ophthalmic personnel.
  2. Compare the technician’s to physician’s role in providing technical care as benchmarked by Preferred Practice Pattern® guidelines of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
  3. Attain passing scores on all content areas for national certification exam.
  4. Demonstrate essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes that correlate with performance as an ophthalmic technician.
  5. Plan and implement a service-learning project.

Assessment of academic achievement will include unit examinations, case presentations, and skill assessments.
