Catalog Course Description

Fundamentals of Industrial Sewing is an introduction to sewing in the manufacturing industry. In addition to using operations instructed in SEW 100, students will study and perform complex operations, bundling, controlling challenging textiles and serging.

  1. Complex Operations

    a. Demonstrate control of Materials-Opposing Gains
    b. Demonstrate ease of Control Materials
    c. Demonstrate material hemming control of materials

  2. Bundles

    a. Identify and define textiles-fibers, Trims, Labels, Color, Pattern and Marker, Spreading, Cutting, Numbering and Sorting
    b. Demonstrate how to handle work correctly at the machine

  3. Control Challenging Textiles

    a. Demonstrate the use and safe operation of the machine, which include Dense, Unstable, Lofty, Thin, Slippery materials

  4. Operating the Serger

    a. Understand ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) stitch vocabulary
    b. Identify correctly the machine parts and tools
    c. Properly and safely demonstrate the Set up and configuration of the machine
    e. Demonstrate Control of straight seams- Woven material
    f. demonstrate Control of curved seams- Woven Material
