Catalog Course Description

Introduces welding and metal forming. Focuses on safety, metal forming with Oxy/Fuel torch and Plasma Arc cutting, and the metal joining processes of Oxy/Fuel welding, GMAW wire feed welding, and GTAW arc welding. Safety and use of shop tools will also be covered.

  1. Demonstrate proper safety practices in the welding lab.
  2. Demonstrate basic heating and cutting using the Oxy/Fuel process.
  3. Demonstrate cutting using the Plasma Arc Cutting process.
  4. Demonstrate basic set-up and welding techniques using the Gas Metal Arc Welding process.
  5. Demonstrate basic set-up and welding techniques using the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process.*
  6. Use basic welding shop tools in a safe and correct manner.
  7. Explain the history of welded metal sculpture.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of welded metal forms and create a welded sculpture utilizing the techniques learned in class.
