Catalog Course Description

Focuses on the quality manufacturing practices used within the process industry, including concepts such as operating consistency, continuous improvement, plant economics, team skills, and statistical process control (SPC).

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Core Course Topics
  1. Introduction to quality assurance.
  2. Quality assurance tools and techniques.
  3. Operating consistency principles and elements.
  4. Statistical process control.
  5. Cost elements of quality.
  6. Principles of Lean Manufacturing and team-centered production.
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  1. Describe common quality practices of process-based manufacturing.
  2. Explain operational consistency from a quality systems evaluation perspective.*
  3. Describe common continuous improvement and elements of process based manufacturing.
  4. Analyze operational cost factors as they relate to process industry cost models.*
  5. Design a SPC (Statistical Process Control) chart for a specific process element.*
  6. Evaluate the team skills demonstrated by a work team.*

Assessment and Requirements

Assessment of Academic Achievement
  1. Chapter Reviews: Each Chapter Review will have an assigned point value.
  2. Four online Module Exams: Module Exams will cover specific course material as assigned.
  3. A minimum of four online discussions of select topics using an online Discussion Board.
  4. An online comprehensive Final Exam.
  5. Student spreadsheet: students will record attendance, Chapter Review scores, Discussion Board scores, Module Exam scores, and Final Exam score. Completed spreadsheet will be turned in and will be used as part of the calculation of the final grade.
  6. The scores of the scheduled Chapter Reviews, Module Exams, Discussion Boards, Final Exam, and Student Spreadsheet will be used to calculate the semester grade.
