Introduces basic acting techniques, theories of acting, and rehearsal procedures. Emphasizes modern and contemporary comedies, and dramas. Students perform scenes from contemporary plays.

Goal Statement

This course is designed to foster an awareness of the theatrical performance components extant in Western Culture.

  1. Memorization Techniques

    Demonstrate ease of memorization techniques during various scenes.

  2. Scene Analysis Techniques

    Analyze a scene according to contemporary acting theories. Critique and analyze the performances of others.

  3. Script-Scoring Techniques

    Create a score for a scene using common script-scoring methods.

  4. Stage Areas and Movement

    Move on the stage in a focused, theatrically appropriate manner.

  5. Vocal Techniques

    Employ vocal techniques in order to speak on the stage with appropriate clarity.

  6. Relaxation Techniques

    Demonstrate how to relax using appropriate techniques.

  7. Concentration Techniques

    Demonstrate proper concentration techniques.

  8. Warm-Up Techniques

    Demonstrate proper warm-up techniques.
