Offers practical application of the fundamentals of set construction, rigging, painting, sound, lighting, and special effects.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

This course is designed to foster an awareness of the practical application of technical theatre production techniques including maintenance, pre-production approaches, construction, installation, technical rehearsals, and performances of a variety of theatrical productions.

Core Course Topics
  1. Orientation, procedure, and scheduling.
  2. Facilities and procedure in practice.
  3. Maintenance, scenic, properties, costuming, and makeup projects.
  4. Preparation for load-in.
  5. Load-in, rigging, hanging, focusing, final assembly, and painting.
  6. Tech tests, cures and runs, cue-to-cue, dry tech, tech rehearsals, and dress-techs.
  7. Performances, show maintenance, and strike.
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  1. Demonstrate how to communicate using appropriate terminology regarding work projects.
  2. Discuss and explain basic technical production concepts.
  3. Demonstrate typical work call, technical rehearsal, and performance procedures.
  4. Employ all techniques that are necessary to work as an effective ensemble member in rehearsals, tech rehearsals, meetings, and performances.*
