Course Description

A 400-hour internship that builds upon the cognitive and practical skills learned in CDL-177, CDL-178, and CDL-179. Focuses on advanced controls and maneuvers. Students will be assigned an internship where they will drive with an approved carrier for 40 hours per week over a 10 week period for on-the-road driving, including within heavy traffic. Students will select the appropriate gear to complete road exercises, demonstrate skip-shifting, both on up-shift and down shift, control vehicle shifting in traffic, and control the vehicle to stop going forward and backward with a set amount of space. Students will demonstrate how to handle the unit safely while improving back maneuvers on public roadways, utilizing defensive driving techniques, and handling the unit during State Commercial Driver's License testing procedure.
