Description

The Certificate in Legal Studies provides students interested in pre-law, business, or similar courses of study at four-year institutions with an introduction to advanced research and writing, and a basic understanding of the American Legal System and the Legal Environment of Business. Students will participate in projects that advance their critical thinking skills, research and presentation skills. This Certificate should be attractive to individuals seeking additional legal knowledge to pursue a career in law or business.

Program Goals
  1. Identify legal and business issues from real or hypothetical fact scenarios.
  2. Perform computer research by generating search terms and applying basic Boolean research techniques.
  3. Analyze and apply rules and laws to real or hypothetical fact scenarios, orally or in writing.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the American Legal System and the Legal Environment of Business.
Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  1. Utilize critical thinking strategies to analyze legal and business issues.
  2. Conduct research by identifying, synthesizing, and applying appropriate laws to real and hypothetical factual scenarios.
  3. Write clearly and cogently in different professional contexts.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the Legal Environment of Business.
