Catalog Course Description

Provides real world work experiences and develops entry-level skills in diagnosis and repair of basic engine service, basic electrical, brake systems, suspension systems, and steering systems. Also covers general preventative maintenance procedures such as oil changes and tire rotation. Laboratory activities.

  • Proper completion of work order and documentation of repair.
  • Completed parts needed inventory and order request.
  • Demonstrate a preventative maintenance procedure and complete multi-point inspection sheet.
  • Diagnose a base brake hydraulic concern.
  • Assess overall brake system condition and determine course of service.
  • Diagnose suspension system concern.
  • Assess overall steering and suspension system condition and determine proper course of action.
  • Diagnose tire, wheel and alignment concern and corrective action required.

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Homework, quizzes, lab reports and a final examination. Measurable objectives will be evaluated by the instructor based on the accuracy and proficiency of objective completion.

  • Complete at least 80% of all the Priority 2 (P-2) items listed in the NATEF Task List for areas: Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Base Engine and Electrical.
  • Complete at least 50% of all the Priority 3 (P-3) items listed in the NATEF Task List for areas: Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Base Engine and Electrical.
