This course introduces students to a project based, hands on approach to visual communication in the fields of architecture and design. Traditional and digital methods and techniques will be used to explore basic principles of design, color theory, image production, composition, 3D modeling, lighting, and scene creation. Students will develop and present design projects using both digital media, and print media.

Students will be empowered to design, create, and present original, and composite design projects to prospective clients and employers.
- Graphic Principles, Concepts and Terminology
- Identify Examples of design elements in existing architecture and art
- Apply basic color theory techniques to create a composite image
- Identify examples of exemplary layout and composition in existing art and architecture
- Traditional visual communication
- Develop 2D and 3D sketches
- Sketch & render traditional elements of architectural entourage
- Render 3D objects with shade and shadow
- Digital Modeling
- Develop basic and advanced 3D geometry using architectural modeling software
- Create models of architectural objects using architectural drawings and images
- Create, edit, and apply materials to digital geometry and models.
- Architectural scene creation
- Create, and place architectural components and entourage in an architectural model
- Locate cameras, and create scenes that properly present architecture.
- Place lights, and create shadows that are geographically appropriate for each scene.
- Tradigital Visual communication
- Develop composite images, using photographs, digital creations, and hand rendered images
- Architectural presentation graphics
- Create digital presentations for large audiences
- Create, print, and prepare presentation boards using composite images
- Architectural portfolio
- Using graphics created in all ACT classes, students will create and present a digital, and physical architectural portfolio.

Credit for Prior College-Level Learning
Interview, given in department by department faculty. Faculty will interview applicants based on submitted portfolio and will assess against evaluation rubric. Evaluation rubric and student checklist located in The School of Business, Entrepreneurship, & Professional Development office.
