Successfully passing the CLT-100 test satisfies HFCs General Education Computer Literacy Requirement, and depending on the program requirements of some/certain concentrations, the test may replace a requirement to take an actual course to meet the Computer Literacy Requirement. Note: Before deciding to take the CLT-100 test, a student is responsible for checking their program on WebAdvisor to see what computer-related course(s) must be taken to meet specific program requirements.

    The Computer Literacy General Education requirement at Henry Ford College states that all graduates will be able to:
  1. Utilize a computer and its software to accomplish practical tasks, including word processing and Internet.

  1. Operate basic PC hardware, including common input, output, and storage devices.
  2. Perform file management tasks, including finding, organizing, saving, zipping, and printing files locally and remotely (e.g. network, cloud, etc.) and in a variety of common formats.
  3. Perform email operations, including composing, sending, opening, organizing, and attaching files.
  4. Locate reliable information on the Internet, identify appropriate search terms, download files, and use a search engine effectively.
  5. Modify account settings on computer resources, including personal, password, and security settings.
  6. Use word processing functions to create, format, and configure a document.
  7. Use a spreadsheet application to create, format, and configure a spreadsheet that incorporates basic formulas and functions.
  8. Use a presentation application to create, format, view, and configure a slideshow.
  9. Identify issues and recommendations related to computer ethics and netiquette, including social media and its impact on your personal life and professional career.
  10. Recognize common threats to computer security and privacy, such as viruses, phishing, and identity theft; and identify methods of prevention.
General Information

Students who do not take one of the approved courses in their program of study may elect to take the Computer Literacy Test (CLT) by enrolling for CLT 100 - Computer Literacy Test.

Students enroll for CLT 100 like any other course, but it meets only once for one hour for the testing process. CLT 100 has no tuition charge, but does have a lab fee of $30.

Students who do not pass the test may retake it or take one of the approved Computer Literacy Degree Requirement courses.

The CLT is a ≈ 105 question test that is taken on a computer. The questions consist of multiple choice, true/false, matching and performance based scenario questions.

Students will have 75 minutes to complete the CLT, and have the opportunity to skip questions and return to those questions later in the testing period. Students will receive immediate feedback as to his or her test score. The passing score is 70%.
