Examines how to perform a career assessment, create a genogram,and research potential career opportunities.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

Core Course Topics
  1. Career Assessment
    • Analyze data from interest, values, and need assessments to identify overlapping areas.
    • Create a personal career profile based on the assessments.
  2. A career versus a job
    • Illustrate the difference between a career versus a job.
    • Produce a genogram showing a student's family history as it pertains to career and/or job.
    • Analyze the genogram, and identify career patterns that exist within a student's family structure.
  3. Exploring career options
    • Research a variety of possible career options based upon the assessments.
    • Select three (3) careers that appear most advantageous.
    • Interview workers employed in the advantageous careers in order to identify compatiblity.
    • Identify which career options, if any, are realistic possibilities, and what goal can be set accordingly.

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Assessment of student learning may include, but not be limited to, writing assignments, special research reports, career inventories, interviews and oral reports.
