Catalog Course Description

Examines and analyzes one’s own resources, strengths and constraints to determine what is realistic for future change. Covers decision-making tools which can be utilized for effective planning resulting in alignment between one’s life and work goals. Potential challenges are examined through problem-solving techniques.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Core Course Topics
  1. Self analysis.
    • Take a series of assessments that measure one's interests, values, experiences, abilities and personality.
    • Produce a list of possible careers.
    • Create a life work profile based on the assessments.
  2. Discovering the world of work.
    • Identify careers from the World of Work Map that match one's life work profile.
  3. Enhancements to one's life work journey.
    • Identify factors that can make one's life work journey go smoothly.
  4. Barriers to one's life work journey.
    • Identify factors that have the potential to make one's life work journey difficult.
  5. How to make decisions to improve one's life work journey.
    • Identify how one makes decisions based upon models of decision making.
    • Experience decision making exercise that test one's decision making capabilities.
    • Identify one major decision within the life arena or work arena that needs to be addressed.
  6. How to develop a life work plan and report on it.
    • Create a personal plan to operationalize the decisions one is willing to make to improve in either the life or work arena.

Assessment of Academic Achievement

Assessment of student learning may include, but not be limited to, writing assignments, critical analysis reports, career inventories, interviews, oral reports and developing a comprehensive life plan.
