Provides instruction in the fundamental and intermediate skills of golf, including proper use of woods, irons, putting, and specialty shots. Also covers rules, terminology, and proper etiquette.

Goal Statement

HPEA 106 Golf I is a sequential course designed to teach beginner and intermediate skills of golf. The student will participate in numerous drills designed to improve skill and technique.

  1. Terminology and safety.
  2. Golf rules.
  3. Golf skills and refinement of strokes.
  4. Strategy (tee shot, fairway shots, and putting).
  5. Practice sessions.
  6. Trouble shots (downhill and uphill lies).
  7. Playing in competition (the match, simplified handicap, Callaway system, match play, stroke play, novelty competition).
  8. Components of fitness and evaluation.
  9. Importance of lifetime sports skills.
