This course builds upon skills developed in MUS 117 (Piano Class 1). Instruction takes place in the HFC Music Technology Lab.

Goal Statement

This course builds upon skills developed in Piano 1; continuation of daily exercises and gradual progression to intermediate repertoire will be accomplished.

  1. Technical five-finger exercises
  2. Note reading
  3. Scales
  4. Melodies with accompaniment
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  • Perform the ascending and descending major scales in F major and G major, hands together, one octave
  • Perform I, IV, and V chords in C major, F major, and G major, hands separate
  • Perform ascending and descending chromatic scale, one octave from C to C, hands separate, naming notes
  • Perform representative technical etude (e.g. Hanon)
  • Perform representative solo piano piece, from memory
  • Perform intermediate arrangement of "Happy Birthday" in F major, from memory
