Catalog Course Description

Emphasizes the use of critical thinking to facilitate application of medical-surgical nursing theory to clinical practice. NOTE: Students who register for NSG 085 must also register for NSG 221 and NSG 222 at the same time. Both are 8-week courses. One to one–and–a–half hours of lecture per week.

Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)

1.Develop increased cognitive processes necessary for application of the nursing process to care for adults with common medical-surgical health problems.
2. Explain pathophysiological factors that affect self-care agency in specific medical–surgical disease conditions.
3. Discuss clinical situations in study groups that assist self and group learning.
4. Apply critical thinking to medical–surgical nursing theory for clinical practice situations.*

Assessment of Academic Achievement

To receive a satisfactory grade, students must attend 80% of the class hours, actively participate in class discussions by contributing meaningful comments/info, complete all assigned homework on time, and participate in group work. Quizzes and practice examinations are administered.
