Emphasizes the use of critical thinking to enhance understanding of medical-surgical nursing theory to clinical practice. NOTE: Students who register for NSG 086 must also register for NSG 221 at the same time. Both are 8-week courses. One hour of contact per week.

1. Apply legal and ethical principles necessary for collaborative care for adults with common medical surgical health problems of cardiovascular, respiratory, hematological, endocrine, and renal.
2. Apply Health Promotion/Illness Management factors that effect self-care abilities in specific medical surgical disease conditions.
3. Discuss medical surgical clinical scenarios in study groups that assist self and group learning.
4. Apply critical thinking to medical-surgical nursing theory for specific clinical scenarios.*
5. Enhance test taking skills in preparation for NCLEX-RN examination.
