Introduces various specialized pharmacy programs: out-patient and in-patient medication dispensing, drug information, pharmacokinetics, management, quality assessment, and procurement. Emphasizes record keeping, third-party billing, and drug distribution systems.

  1. Discuss the concepts of hospital inpatient record keeping, third-party billing and drug distribution systems.
  2. Discuss the pharmacy computer system used for medication dispensing, drug information, pharmacokinetics, management quality assessment and procurement.
  3. Demonstrate how to enter patient data for record keeping, and billing using community and in-patient software.
  4. Describe the computer sources available to check on pediatric dosages.
  5. Identify required product information from medication labels.
  6. Demonstrate proper procedures in printing patient prescription labels.
  7. Discuss the use of PDAs in pharmacy practice.
  8. Demonstrate proper procedures in using resources to locate reference material.

Assessment of academic achievement will include a combination of tests and lab practical exams.
