Catalog Course Description

Discusses how to convert vehicle body position drawings to required die positions in various die operations. Explores strip stock development and part clearance-interference conditions.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Core Course Topics
  1. Descriptive geometry fundamentals including true size of a surface.
  2. True size surface and development of an angle between two surfaces.
  3. Constructing true surfaces including constant size flanges and working with compound angles.
  4. Determining clearance or interference between body components.
  5. Developing strip stock to join two surfaces at a compound angle.
  6. Development of an intersection between complex curved surfaces.
  7. Initial exposure to vehicle body drafting and the concept of vehicle body lines.
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  • Explain the methods for projecting sheet components into true view and develop optimum die position.
  • Design strip stock to join sheet metal components which are positioned at a compound angle.*
  • Solve descriptive geometry problems involving vehicle body positioning.*
  • Construct a specified angle between two sheet metal components.
  • Explain clearance and interference between components.
  • Solve shop problems related vehicle body positioning.*
  • Explain vehicle body lines and component positioning.
  • Assessment and Requirements

    Assessment of Academic Achievement

All students will be required to complete a comprehensive final examination that assesses the learning of all course objectives  This exam must be weighted in a manner so that the exam score is worth a minimum of fifteen percent of the final course grade.  This exam is to be a common exam administered to all sections of TAGD 280.

    General Course Requirements and Recommendations

The student will be required to bring the drafting equipment used in the previous two drafting courses (TAGD 110 and TAGD 120).  Modeling clay is also required.

    Texts

Texts, handouts, and/or workbooks will be determined by the TAE Department.
