Catalog Course Description

Instructor-guided work on a student-initiated project in the Telecommunication field. Project must be approved by instructor and can be either scholarly or creative in nature, or both.

Goals, Topics, and Objectives

Goal Statement

To explore a topic in the Telecommunication field in a scholarly and/or creative way so as to gain a deeper understanding or appreciation for the topic.

Core Course Topics
  1. Discussion and submission of a specific project proposal which, after acceptance by instructor, becomes the class project.
  2. The use of critical thinking to relate aspects of this project to support and enhance the importance of a media-literate society.
  3. Project work and completion, with guidance from the instructor at critical stages.
  4. Creation of a measurement plan which, after acceptance by instructor, becomes the class contract.
Core Course Learning Objectives (Separated)
  • Propose a project based on some aspect of Telecommunication with instructor approval
  • Organize a measurement plan to allow for assessment with instructor approval
  • Successfully structure and produce a significant project in a Telecommunication area, either scholarly, creative or both
  • Present and defend overall decision for importance of topic choice and final project as it relates to supporting a media literate society

Assessment and Requirements

Assessment of Academic Achievement
Instructor will judge the quantity and quality of the work. A general guideline for satisfactory scholarly work: a 20+ page critical research paper; for creative work: a project evidencing 120-150 hours of effort.
