Catalog Course Description

Introduces the history, design, and construction of costumes for the stage. Students selectively study the history of stage costuming from the Greeks to the present day with an emphasis on line, form, production requirements, principles of stage costume design, and building techniques.

  1. Costume periods and history.

    Identify the various stage costuming styles.
    Identify the major silhouettes in stage costuming.

  2. Costume production.

    Organize and prepare a costume work session.
    Describe the basic construction techniques for stage costumes.
    Identify the major structural components of stage costumes.

  3. Costume design.

    Describe the costume requirements for a one-act play.
    Write character/costume analyses.
