Catalog Course Description

Explores the importance of the body in the acting process, with an emphasis on practical experience. Presents various techniques and improvisational exercises necessary to develop a greater sensitivity to and accuracy with emotional expression and physical characterization in a variety of styles.

Core Course Topics
  1. Movement Styles.

    Explain the differences in movement within different acting styles.

  2. Body Control and Awareness.

    Exhibit greater flexibility, awareness, and balance of one's body.

  3. Masks.

    Demonstrate masks as exercise work and for performance.

  4. Space

    Utilize acting space economically and accurately.

  5. Character

    Express character, emotion, and intention physically.

  6. Improvisation

    Improvise a wide variety of movement work: solo and duet.

  7. Self-evaluation

    Self-inventory, evaluate, revise and critique movement exercises and pieces.

  8. Composing

    Compose original movement work: solo and duet.
