Catalog Course Description

A lab-based computer class dealing with the principles of motion capture performance for use in virtual theatricality, motion pictures, gaming, television, Web media, and motion studies. Students work through a structured series of assignments that culminate in a 20-second animation based upon a particular sequence, gesture, or motion. Focuses on body performance only.

  1. Purpose, function, and limitation of Mo Cap for entertainment.
  2. Placement of Markers.
  3. Rom execution.
  4. The performer’s role in the Mo Cap Pipeline.
  5. Critical analyses of selected commercial cinema Mo Cap performances.
  6. The creation of human movement for Mo Cap.
  7. The creation of martial arts movement for Mo Cap.
  8. The creation of bipedal and quadruped non-human and fantasy movement for Mo Cap.
  9. Storyboards.
  10. Avoiding Occlusions.
  11. Storytelling via Mo Cap.

  • Evaluate the advantages and limitations associated with the Motion Capture (Mo Cap) process.*

  • Perform a Range of Motion Trial (ROM).
