Course Description

Introduces the first semester nursing student to the role of the professional nurse as the provider of care for adult clients and a member of the profession. Explains how to utilize critical thinking skills in a systematic, problem solving process as a framework for providing care. Provides a framework for best practices, to think critically, assess factors that influence safe and effective care delivery, and integrate theory with care of clients. This course includes supervised clinical agency/laboratory practicums. Course comprised of four hours of theory and six hours of clinical/lab per week.

Pre-requisites
BIO-233, ENG-131, HCS-131 or CIS-100, PSY-131, One of the following Math courses: MATH-115, MATH-131, MATH-141, MATH-175, or MATH-180. All with a minimum grade of C or instructor permission.
Co-requisites
NSG-101, NSG-115, BIO-234 (taken previously or concurrently with a minimum grade of C)

Level 1 Skills demonstration, given in department by department faculty. Faculty will assess demonstration and determine satisfactory completion based on evaluation rubric. Evaluation rubric and student checklist located in Division Office. Maximum number of attempts on each skilled demonstration: two. Students must also take an exam.
