Course Description

Provides practice and preparation for academic writing at the college level. Course work will help students refine academic writing skills, develop confidence in writing, and learn how to meet the demands of writing in diverse contexts. Students are asked to read, think and write in multiple ways in order to prepare them to write at a college level. Students who are required to take this course must earn a grade of S (satisfactory) before enrolling in ENG-131.

Students place into ENG 093 through self-placement or through multiple-measures assessment as determined by English Department guidelines. Students may appeal placement by scheduling an appointment with the Writing Center for an impromptu, final writing placement assessment.
Students who place into both ENG 093: Preparation for College Writing and ENG-081: Preparation for College Reading are encouraged to take both classes during the same semester.
Requirements are subject to change. The information represented here is effective starting Fall 2019 and applies to the current catalog year. If you were admitted prior to this year, please check your requirements under the My Progress section of HFC Self Service.
