Course Description

ENG-131 is the first college-level composition course in a two-semester sequence. Students will be introduced to writing, reading, critical thinking, and using information at the college level. In particular, the course will help students develop writing that reveals rhetorical and academic flexibility. One or more assignments will focus on a theme related to the Honors Colloquium topic(s).

Pre-requisites
Students place into ENG-131H through multiple-measures assessment as determined by English Department guidelines. Students who were required to take developmental coursework before ENG-131H may also enroll in 131H by passing ENG-081 and 093 with a grade of S; 094 with a grade of S; or 082 and 092 with a C or better.

Students may appeal placement by scheduling an appointment with the Writing Center for an impromptu, final writing placement assessment.
