Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of investigation, including constitutional law, criminal procedure, types of investigation, court functions and civil law, the crime scene process, and special investigations.*
Demonstrate an understanding of patrol procedures, including patrol procedures, interpersonal relations and conflict mediation, patrol techniques, report writing, and dealing with juveniles and their families.*
Demonstrate an understanding of detention and prosecution, including receiving and booking, case prosecution, and the civil process.
Perform the required skills of a police officer in the areas of first aid, use and care of firearms, and physical skills such as the mechanics of arrest and search, police tactical techniques, defensive tactics, and driving.
Demonstrate an understanding of the various aspects of traffic control, including the motor vehicle law, vehicle stops, traffic control and enforcement, operating under the influence of liquor and motor vehicle accident investigation.
Demonstrate an understanding of special operations, including emergency preparedness/disaster control, civil disorders, and tactical operations.
Recite the law enforcement officer’s code of ethics by the 15th day of class.
Pass a state-mandated physical training exit test prior to successful completion of the police academy.
