Introduction to WHFR Radio

Course Goals

The goal of this course is to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for contributing to WHFR-FM, the college’s non-commercial, educational radio station. Through understanding WHFR’s structure, station rules, and FCC regulations, as well as hands-on experience with studio equipment, students will develop foundational abilities in broadcast writing, on-air announcing, and ethical broadcasting practices.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Identify and describe in detail WHFR facts, WHFR management structure, WHFR rules and regulations, as well as FCC rules and regulations

Operate the key studio recording equipment in a basic way

Access and utilize WHFR digital music server

Write an effective public service and promotional announcement

Identify, interpret and debate the ethical implications of FCC radio broadcast rules and regulation and potential misuse of the WHFR airwaves
