Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Describe the history of computers from the abacus to Zenith.

Explain the basic calculator functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and scientific notation.

Identify and explain the function and use of the keys on a standard keyboard. Identify, explain, and use the elementary personal computer commands.

Identify and use peripheral computer hardware.

Identify the different operating systems; i.e. machine language, DOS, and Windows.

Explain the function and use of data storage systems and their components.

Identify and use data storage media, including Cloud storage.

Prepare, save, and retrieve documents utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, and computer graphics software programs.

Demonstrate rudimentary computer programming with proprietary software.

Demonstrate the use of an elementary CAD program with proprietary software.

Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills through class presentations and written reports.

Utilize and maintain a weekly log or journal of all course activities.

Utilize and maintain a personal spreadsheet to track course progress.

Utilize the intranet to send and receive assigned and personal emails.

Utilize a web browser to access information from the Internet.

Utilize simulation software to introduce the AMTEC integrated manufacturing system trainer.

Utilize individual and group problem solving skills to work through class projects.
