Program Description

Description

Prepares students for a career as an automotive mechanic. An automotive mechanic performs maintenance, diagnostic testing, repairs, and inspections of small trucks and cars. They work on engines, drive belts, transmissions, and electronic systems such as steering, brakes, and accident-avoidance systems.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proper use of special tools.
  2. Use safety equipment properly.
  3. Dissemble, perform critical measurements, resemble, and demonstrate satisfactory operation of components.
  4. Perform job specific tasks as required for NATEF accreditation.
  5. Demonstrate proper use of tools and equipment commonly found in industry.
  6. Research proper service information using common current industry technology.
  7. Demonstrate proper care and use of emerging technology tools and equipment.
  8. Demonstrate proper care and use of alternative energy tools and equipment.
  9. Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of emerging technologies.
