Program Description
A comprehensive study of the foundation skills needed to successfully transfer to a four year Bachelor of Fine Arts program. Course work includes design studies, drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, digital media, and art history - all of which are used to develop an understanding of the visual elements and principals of design as they relate to observational, spatial, and expressive literacy. Craftsmanship, dedication and skill sets are stressed throughout the program. While visual literacy is of utmost importance within the program, learning how to look at, understand and communicate about art, both in a written and oral context, is also stressed. All students will be required to participate in an on-campus Exit Exhibition prior to graduation.
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Communicate aesthetic concepts in a variety of media utilizing the Visual Elements and Principles of Design.
- Create body of two-dimensional work that demonstrates an understanding of the Visual Elements and Principals of Design as they apply to observational literacy.
- Create a body of three-dimensional work that demonstrates and understanding of the Visual Elements and Principles of Design as they apply to spatial literacy.
- Develop a sense of historical literacy as it relates to the visual arts, and the impact on one’s own art, through course assignments and discussions.
- Develop a sense of expressive literacy as it relates to the creation of artistic endeavors, and assemble a body of work that validates this capability.
Designed as a transfer program into a Bachelor of Fine Arts program:
- Studio Artist
- College Professor (with BFA and MFA in studio, or PhD in Art History)
- Museum or Gallery Work (with BFA)
