Program Description

Description

Provides students with a solid background for a career in the automotive service field. Covers both management skills and automotive service knowledge including effective communication with customers, co-workers, and service technicians; and technologies used in modern automobiles. Students may elect, by the selection of specific courses, to pursue either the Associate in Business degree, with required core courses in business, or the Associate in Applied Science degree, with required core courses in automotive.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  1. Interpret basic financial statements.
  2. Apply management theory to effectively supervise the human resources of an organization.
  3. Evaluate management decisions given an organization’s relationship to the external business environment.
  4. Creatively solve common problems in managing an organization.
  5. Demonstrate effective non-verbal and verbal communication skills for a business environment.
  6. Demonstrate effective written communication skills for a business environment.
  7. Employ computer applications to perform business activities.
  8. Develop the requisite entry-level skills and knowledge for employment in the automotive service industry.
  9. Demonstrate the utilization of safety hazards standards/precautions as associated with the automotive service industry.
  10. Demonstrate the necessary skills to work safely in auto labs and service shop environments.
  11. Demonstrate the characteristics and standards of professionalism that contribute to an effective job performance in a manner that include behavior, appearance, and punctuality.
  12. Demonstrate effective communication skills both in the written and verbal forms to communicate difficult and technical information to others, including fellow students, instructors and/or customers.
  13. Apply quantitative skills to analyze situations and make decisions in a business environment
Career Opportunities

Graduates may find employment as service managers of automotive dealerships, managers of aftermarket automotive repair and parts chain stores, assistant service managers, service advisors, service writers, or service consultants.
