Program Description

Description

Introduces building construction methods and materials, including both residential and commercial building types. Laboratory classes provide students with hands-on experience in the areas of residential and commercial construction materials, construction blueprint reading, cost estimating, construction methods, presentation techniques, and residential construction practices. Addresses the principles and necessary skills of the construction profession through hands-on activities designed to provide students with the skills necessary to obtain employment in the construction trades.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate employable skills (attendance, written communication, verbal communication, teamwork) in the construction field.
  2. Apply basic construction methods and procedures as they relate to a residential construction project.
  3. Select the appropriate construction materials and systems in residential and commercial projects.
  4. Demonstrate site and building layout procedures.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in reading residential construction documents.
  6. Analyze mechanical (HVAC), architectural, and electrical drawings required for construction related trades.
