Assessment of Academic Achievement

Students will be assessed using quizzes and assignments based on Chapter assignments, 3 lab practicals (Word processing, Spreadsheets, and Presentation Software), and a final exam.

General Course Requirements and Recommendations

Basic Computer Skills – The student will receive instruction and practically apply skills in operating basic hardware, using a mouse, saving and retrieving files, downloading information, printing, etc., and using basic computer operations.

Word Processing Software – The student will use word processing software to create documents and exercise basic word processing skills.

Spreadsheet Software – The student will use spreadsheet software to create a health care related spreadsheet (to include a variety of basic formulas, graphs, charts, and functions).

Presentation Software – The student will use presentation software to create a health care related presentation (to include using action buttons, preset animation, imported images, graphs, and charts).

Internet Search – The student will use internet search skills to locate information on the internet, identify appropriate search terms, download files, and use search engines effectively.

Course assignments and quizzes will be based on topics as outlined in the course syllabus. There will be three practical activities assigned (word processing, spread sheet, and presentation).

Student Responsibility – The student will abide by the Henry Ford College computer Usage Policy. The student will demonstrate personal responsibility in the care and use of lab equipment, copyright laws, netiquette, privacy issues, and follow all academic policies, including but not limited to those on cheating and plagiarism.

Instructors (or their designees) reserve the right to require students to provide proper picture identification for test taking, graded papers or projects or other appropriate purposes.

HFC Policy on Academic Dishonesty (Cheating) will be followed in this course.

Grading Scale

Grading scale for exams and the final grade:

  • 98-100% = A+

  • 93-97% = A

  • 90-92% = A-

  • 87-89% = B+

  • 83-86% = B

  • 80-82% = B-

  • 76-79% = C+

  • 70-75% = C

  • 67-69% = D+

  • 63-66% = D

  • 60-62% = D-

  • 59% & below = E

There is a final exam for this course. It is required for all students to take the final exam in order to complete the course. The grade will be calculated using the following:

  • Quizzes, assignments, and/or participation = 50%

  • Practical activities = 30% (10% each)

  • Final exam = 20%
